  So this all began when my mother-in-law wanted to visit Washington, GA for her birthday. I was with my wife, her two sisters, and their mom, and they'd heard that the Southern Scratch bakery was worth a look. We're all life-long southerners, so believe me when I say that the little town of Washington, GA is an absolute showplace for southern hospitality and that Southern Scratch is a prime example.
  
  Kathryn, the owner, takes real pleasure in every single person who comes through the door. And the food at this "bakery" goes WAY beyond baked goods. Go there ready for a meal. I had her grilled pimento cheese sandwich with a side salad, and it was among the best I've had anywhere. Others in our group had kale & sweet potato soup and deviled eggs, waffles and eggs, quiche, and a simple scoop of pimento cheese on some lettuce. Kathryn is a professional dietitian and takes great care and pride in locally sourced, organic ingredients. We all enjoyed both our food and the parade of tourists and locals who came through. Don't just give Southern Scratch a try if you find yourself in Washington. Make a special trip to Washington just to eat there.
